Scope-of-Work

INP Revised Scope of Work:

 This 36-month program will improve protection of the right to fair trial for citizens accused of crimes in Pakistan, especially religious minorities, as evidenced by improvement in the Fair Trial Index before and after program intervention.

 Goal:  To improve protection of the right to fair trial for citizens accused of crimes in Pakistan, especially religious minorities, as evidenced by improvement in the Fair Trial Index before and after program intervention.

Objective 1: To design and advocate for evidence-based legislative reforms in Pakistan, which define the basic guarantees for fair trial and due process provided to the accused in criminal cases, in accordance with globally accepted standards of legal practice and requirements of national context.

Outcomes:

  • 1 Key elements of the right to fair trial and due process are clearly articulated
  • 2 Consensus is built among criminal justice stakeholders on the minimum guarantees for fair trial and due process at the national and provincial level
  • 3 Policy reforms for fair trial and due process is implemented among criminal justice stakeholders through the introduction of new bills and amendments in the national and/or provincial legislature.

Objective 2: Justice Providers have greater capacity to fulfill their due responsibilities for protecting the right to fair trial and due process, especially where the accused are religious minorities and women.

Outcomes:

  • 1 Training needs regarding the responsibilities needed for protecting the right to fair trial and due process for relevant stakeholders (especially where the accused are religious minorities and women) are identified.
  • 2 Criminal justice service providers have the necessary knowledge and skills to protect citizens’ right to fair trial and due process especially where the accused are religious minorities and women

Objective 3: Ordinary citizens (especially youth) have a deeper understanding of due process, resulting in greater citizen accountability of justice providers for delivering fair trials and mobilization of support for policy reform.

 Outcome:

  • 1 Media campaign increases the awareness of ordinary citizens about the right to fair trial and due process
